A 70-million-year old dinosaur species possessed massive, scissor-like chompers that it probably used to saw [Chomping or sawing?] through the tough, fibrous leaves of ancient palm trees. The discovery might help explain how multiple species of vegetarian dinos could co-exist in prehistoric Europe: this new dinosaur likely ate the parts of plants that no one else wanted.

The toothy dinosaur, described this week in the journal Scientific Reports, was discovered in the south of France among a jumble of bones from other dinosaurs and reptiles. Called Matheronodon provincialis, all that remains of this new species is an 8-inch long chunk of its right upper jaw, and a few loose teeth that may have come from other individuals.
