Premium cable network Epix has announced that it has plans to launch a standalone, direct-to-consumer video subscription service, much like HBO or Showtime. As part of the new service, it will be offering movies and TV shows in 4K sometime this year, as reported by Variety.

Subscribers will be able to stream the Ultra HD selections via Epix’s apps on select devices. The first titles available will include movies like Goldeneye, The Spy Who Loved Me, Star Trek Beyond, and Transformers: The Last Knight as well as Epix original series Get Shorty.

The network’s executive VP and GM Monty Sahran says Epix is the first US TV network to offer Ultra HD through its apps and hinted that there might be support for HDR in the future. Other premium...
